Daytime kick off at Likas

CONTRARY to what was planned earlier, the Sabahawks may have to kick off their Malaysian League campaign under the sun on Jan 7.

Likas Stadium – the venue of home matches – is still not bright enough to play matches at night, according to the FA of Malaysia (FAM).

Sabah, who will play in the Premier League this year, will open their campaign against KL Spa Putrajaya FC.

Sabah FA secretary Alijus Sipil said the latest report from FAM stated that the stadium lights did not meet the requirements.

“It could be some wiring problem because one of the four floodlights was not functional and we were told the bulbs have been replaced.

“We are still hoping the lights can be repaired before the opener or else we just have to play in the afternoon at the same venue,” he said.

Alijus also said they could still play at night at the stadium once the lights were repaired after the opening match.

The FAM recently revealed that 15 stadiums were too dark for night matches nationwide, including Likas Stadium.

Only four met the mark – Shah Alam Stadium in Selangor, Darul Makmur Stadium (Pahang), Jalan Besar Stadium (Singapore) and State Stadium (Sarawak).
