STRIKER Koh Traore starred for Sabah as his goals beat Police 5-3 in the Premier League match at the Likas Stadium today.
The foreign import grabbed a first half hattrick – his fourth of a remarkable debut season – before two more goals secured the much needed three points for the Sabahawks.
The Malian forward started the goals galore in the 11th minute when he slotted home from a Zainizam Marjan’s cross.
Police’s Kaye Edrisar equalised with a fine individual goal in the 21st minute but Traore restored the lead in the 32nd minute with an assist from Alto Linus.
Traore made it 3-1 when he completed his hattrick four minutes later, but Khairul Izuan gave the Cops hope by pulling a goal back four minutes before the break.
Sabah continued to dominate in the second half and the Traore-Alto combination worked to perfection again in the 57th minute when Traore tucked home from close range from the winger’s pass.
The visitors fought back with goal from Khairul Amar in the 60th minute but a fifth from Traore on 80th minutes killed off any hope for Police to at least snatch a draw.
The victory moved Sabah to 30 points and remained fifth in the 12-team table.
Sabah are closer to the Malaysia Cup play-off slot, although KL Pos Malaysia (26 points) and Police (25 points) are still in with a chance with two games remaining.
The Sabahawks will take on Johor away in their next game on June 24.
