KUCHING: Highly fancied Selangor seems certain to receive a torrid reception at Stadium Negeri tonight as a draw or loss is not an option for the Crocs in the curtain raiser of Group D.
The wounded Crocs must win against the Red Giants in their quest to win back the hearts of their fans and boost team spirit.
According to Sarawak head coach Robert Alberts, he is not under-estimating the visitors’ strength tonight. On paper, the Red Giants are no doubt the favourites tonight, however, the underdogs tag suit the homesters fine.
“Selangor should know what to expect when they come here to Stadium Negeri. We will fight to our last breath to make sure we win. The boys know what to do. Plain and simple as that,” he said.
Alberts revealed to The Borneo Post yesterday that he has a full-strength team at his disposal to face-off with the Red Giants.
On loan striker Bobby Gonzalez is expected to start along with Joel Epalle in the destroyer role. Their much vaunted partnership has yet to be tested on competitive level and it will be their baptism of fire against a Selangor back-four marshalled by top local defenders.
Sabahan Ronny Harun and Sharudin Yaakob are set to bolster the Crocs’ midfield and defence as the squad desperately seek rapid redemption in the Malaysia Cup campaign. Good news for the Crocs in defence as first choice goalkeeper Sani Annuar Kamsani makes a return between the posts, arguably the loneliest position on the pitch.
Before the 2012 Malaysia Cup campaign started, Selangor coach Irfan Bakti Abdul Salim have commented that all the teams in Group D are “good and strong opponents”.
A rather fleeting comments for the Crocs that clearly sets the tone for tonight’s clash.
The Sarawak versus Selangor match starts 8.15pm tonight at the Stadium Negeri. The Crocs have called all fans to come in full force to support the team.
