Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Under-19 squad gave a spirited display as they lost 2-3 to the Sabah Super League team in the friendly match held at the Likas Sports complex field B on Monday.
The match according to chief coach Awang Sabtu was to give the players a stern test against the seasoned players.
"Obviously I do not expect them to win. The match was just to see how they will perform playing against the senior players.
It was generally a very good performance from the boys with barely a week of training sessions.
The main area we need to work on now is the defence, which was a bit suspect at the moment."
Meanwhile, new German import Hendrik Helmke and Sanjos Sundawat who was signed by Sabah FA to fill up the available local quota both saw action in the match.
Hendrik who was playing in the midfield department scored the second goal after an earlier strike by Bobby Gonzales in the first half while the third was netted by Leopold Alfonso in the second half.
